55 Hudson Yards is one of the first skyscrapers to utilize a powder-coated finish. The 51-story structure, designed by Kohn Pederson Fox Associates, incorporated nearly 20,000 pounds of smooth and textured CORAFLON coatings on its metal curtain wall and window frames. The specially formulated “Black Flower” color created by PPG was developed to mimic the cast-iron facades and industrial heritage of the surrounding area. CORAFLON powder coatings are formulated using fluoroethylene vinyl ether (FEVE) resins to provide satin and high-luster glosses in solid and mica-flecked colors.
