A beautiful and high-performance modified timber, the LIGNIA Fire is sourced from FSC-certified softwoods. Together with the manufacturer’s modification process, fire meets the flame spread requirements for Class A fire-rated buildings. Flame-retardant properties are locked in at the molecular level through the modification process and there is no need for surface coating or after-market applications of fire-retardants. The product can be glued and painted as well as screwed and nailed in the same way as other timber.
Judge’s Comment: “Finding a product that offers both fire and weather-resistance has not been an option, regardless of products making those claims. Finding a wood treatment process that is also free of Red List chemicals seems to be a Holy Grail.”
