Concealed Louver System Enhances NYPD 40th Precinct Facade

Key Highlights

  • Integrate perforated aluminum skin with high-performance louvers for a sleek appearance and modern functionality.
  • Enhance building security and ventilation.
  • Creates a striking visual contrast with precast concrete and reflective glass, elevating architectural aesthetics.

The NYPD 40th Precinct in the Bronx, N.Y., is a modern facility built to support law enforcement and community safety. For the building envelope, architect Bjarke Ingels Group (BIG) specified the Perform Louver PL-5700 from Construction Specialtiesthe first fully concealed louver system tested for air performance and water penetration.

These concealed louvers provide the air movement and security of high-performance louvers, hidden under a cover of modern, perforated aluminum skin. The perforated sheet and louver are unified within a single framed system. The fully assembled unit delivers the louver performance without the louvered look.

The metal mesh that conceals the louver creates an interesting contrast with the precast concrete and reflective glass used throughout the rest of the building exterior.
