Coming next week to Chicago’s Merchandise Mart is ASID’s inaugural Outcome of Design Awards. The competition recognizes projects that have evidence-based design data illustrating the impact of design. In addition to the feted projects, the event includes some valuable educational sessions at its Outcome of Design Conference. Experts in the field of design, neuroscience and technology will share the latest findings and case studies on the value of evidence-based design. Doreen Lorenzo, M.A, assistant dean of the School of Design and Creative Technologies and clinical professor of Design and Future, director of the Center for Integrated Design, University of Texas-Austin, will offer the keynote, “Preparing Future Generations to Influence Corporate Culture.” Other speakers include: Kate Lister, President, Global Workplace Analytics; Sandra Leigh Lester, BTech.Arch.Sci., MCOD, ARIDO, IDC, ZIN, PTS, CSBA, LEED AP BD+C, Founder and CEO, Affecting Change, Inc.; and Fred Marks, AIA, LEED AP BD+C, Six Sigma Green Belt, President, Academy of Neuroscience for Architecture (ANFA), Visiting Scholar, Salk Institute for Biological Studies. Attendees will learn how to push the boundaries of design through understanding the mindshift behind design’s shifting focus to creating positive, quantifiable effects on the human experience. LightArt’s launch made a grand entrance with large-scale acoustical light fixtures made for public spaces with high ceilings. The acoustic treatments act as the company’s name: light and art, while contributing to a pleasant acoustic signature in voluminous spaces. The collection offers three new shapes—wide shade ring, box and drum—with designs scalable to sizes yet unseen in acoustic lighting applications. The company aims to help resolve sound issues in large, densely populated indoor spaces.
Tek Vue partitions from Teknion were designed in response to customers’ increased emphasis on aesthetics, simplicity and value.
