Look Where You’re Going

I’m not sure about you, but my days can be so busy and chaotic, that in my rush, I sometimes miss a step—it’s definitely the case in the middle of night when anxiety is gnawing at my brain, and I miss that last step on the stair landing on the way to get a drink or something from the kitchen. The Niteglow luminous stair tread below, surely, would have been handy. Like a lot of things in life, it’s easy to look past taken-for-granted assets that help us, including the stairs that bring us from one level to another. Despite their humble nature in the built environment—as well as their long history—there’s a lot going on with this overlooked interior component, as you can see in the products below. Let me leave you with one last thought: stairs truly connect us, so maybe we should put more thought into adding a little flare into this seemingly unvarying constituent building part.

Doubling Down

Flowing, tiered areas are an increasingly popular feature of today’s atria, as they create an open and welcoming feel, inviting people to linger. At Arizona State University’s Beus Center for Law and Society, New York City-based Ennead Architects were looking to take this trend a step further. Their aim was to create a space which also could double as a more formal auditorium.
